The Pink-headed Duck( has not been seen since 1935)-August 2014

The Pink Headed duck

In August 2014 I had an occasion to visit Zoological Survey of India. They have a private collection of birds of all kinds. The moment I came to know about it, I requested Dr.Maheshwaran of the birds section who was kind enough to accompany me to the galery. One by one he was showing me the birds of diferrent parts of India some rare and some common till he came to the end of a table and said this is "the male and female of the Pink-Headed Duck". I distinctly remember of staggering a  little. After I had recovered from the shock, I ensured that the moment was captured in the camera. There were a number of specimens of Narcondam Horn bill and green peafowl.
